 CRM Modular Layouts
« Thread Started on Nov 5, 2009, 3:26pm »

I have allocated 3 tables, around 18 feet, to the CLC. This will need to include CL Junction and Fiddleyard No.1, a combined length of 7ft 4in including the bridge section, leaving about 11 feet between them to be filled as required.

Priority will be given to modules not yet exhibited then on a first come first served basis to others, please post in this thread (not 'Floorplan') to reserve your module's place in the line up.

The FI has initially been allocated 5 tables plus a gap for Forks Trestle. This means that we will have some modules left over... I have built too many - again.

The allocation will be as shown below, Rio Paleta will be first reserve and Perejil will also be available if space and table availablility permit.

Left to right.
RJR Shed, John's f/y, Tex Mex, Asilo, Forks Trestle, Bob's f/y, Punto Veinticinco.

I have not allocated a space for the Orange Growers module as I am not sure how far John has got with it or if it will be available. If it is ready for showing I will drop Asilo from the line up. This means I'll just have a fiddleyard in use but I don't mind dropping out because I'll have chance to air my modules at Rainhill and Dukinfield later in the year. ;)

Again, any comments regarding the Ferrocarril Internacional to be posted in this thread please.

Either an extra table will be allocated or Asilo will be out with the Orange Growers to take its place. ;)

Although you have displayed your modules Bob. I (and I presume others!) haven't had the chance to see them so if I get a vote, I say have as many as possible!! (I also suggest some sort of 'timetable' of working, however simple, so the operators have a bit of advance notice as to what goes where ;D)

I've not displayed my On30 modules yet. I was saying that Asilo would be withdrawn in favour of Orange Growers because I'll have plenty of chance to show it later in the year.

I am now looking at rearranging the floorplan (linked below) slightly to give an extra table (or two) to the FI. It may be possible to relocate Haston Nomad (9 on the plan), either between 13 and 16 or between 5 and 6.

Ahh !! Dont drop a layout on my account !!
I started in earnest out of guilt of doing nothing so far !! If there is room, Orange will be ready but I would hate for it to be at the expense of a module that has been ready for sometime ?!?!

If I can get the extra table(s) in there'll be room for Orange and Asilo, possibly Rio Paleta too. I'm not dropping any layouts if I can help it though. If push comes to shove Chris can go in North Junction SB with Haston Nomad but I would prefer to keep him in the main hall. ;)

I see from the new plan that the OO modules are included in the show, do we know which ones are coming and who is operating please? I note that the layout is shown as L shaped so the corner section is going to be there but I can't find any more details.

The Cheshire Layouts Committee is to be included as there are new modules available and it will allow Bradley Junction and Echo Beach to take part because they have not been shown at Crewe before. I've drawn the layout L shaped in the assumption that there may be other modules volunteered too but it remains to be seen how big the layout is going to be and whether or not JRM Industrial will be needed. The L shaped layout looks good but straight line operation is easier (no speed restriction on the tight curve).

It is essential that any modules included in this line up bring their own jumper leads and bridge sections as any spares that I have will be used on the Ferrocarril Internacional first if required. As the FI is going to be on DCC one of my analogue controllers will be available for use with the CLC though.

PS
Having seen Brian's On30 fiddleyards in use at Uppermill I'd be grateful if he could bring them both for use with the FI at Crewe as they are considerably better built than my attempt, and also hold longer trains. :D

Wouldn't want to be standing next to him after lunch then. Though the FI might be the first gas operated layout ;)

Further to Bill and Bob's postings ( I will resist the urge to refer to them as the 'Flowerpot Men' because of the nearness of their names as it might show my age !! ;D) I would like 'Echo Beach' and 'Summit' to be in the line up of 00 modules if possible. The former has not been shown at Crewe and the latter is always a 'crowd puller'. I have made a few subtle changes to 'Summit' and plan a few more, which should compliment Andrew's excellent original work. I plan to 'rest' 'Western Zenith ' as DCC conversion is taking place.
One thing learned from previous exhibitions is that one can operate the CRM modules, two are OK but ideally three or four allow variety of operations and give the others chance to see the other exhibits! Calling James (95) are you still out there? Still planning to join us?

Provisional line ups for the modular layouts.

Cheshire Layouts Committee
Fiddleyard/CL Junction, Summit, Bradley Junction, Echo Beach, Fiddleyard

JRM will be on-site if needed for the CLC but only as a reserve module because I'd rather keep the layout in a straight line if we can. It is possible to operate the CLC from the front if required, I did this at Great Haywood when the layout was at their exhibition, so doing allows the tables to be backed against a wall for extra stability and is an option I'll be looking at for our show. The OO modules will be on analogue DC power, I'll supply the controller.

Ferrocarril Internacional
RJR Shed, Fiddleyard, Orange Growers, Calle de la Coronacion, Rio Paleta, Forks Trestle, Fiddleyard, Punto Veinticinco

Asilo will also be on-site to be included in the line up if there is room or used as a separate display of the module standards if not. The FI will be driven from behind in the time honoured manner as Brian's fiddleyards are designed to be operated this way. The On30 layout will be on DCC control, can we use John's controller please? This will allow one train to follow another along the main line with both being under direct control of a driver rather than just set in motion and left as runaways.

Further to my recent posting, could we have some idea of the number of individuals who will be available to operate the 00 Modules at the 2010 exhibition?

The 0n30 modules will obviously have pride of place in 2010 as the 00 modules had in 2009. I am however concerned that myself and James 95 may be the only operators of the 00 modules...the modules are now consigned to a wall in the North Signalbox (which as I recall was colder than anywhere else on site in 2009...I even saw a brass monkey wandering around requesting if anyone had welding equipment!) and I question if it is worth displaying them. ???

Do not get me wrong, but if 2010 is to be the year of the 0n30 modules then perhaps the 00 modules should be rested, I could then assist on other duties and perhaps help with the 0n30 modules myself.

I do not think we need a strict rota of operators of the 00 modules, but at least some expression of interest from two or three others, not engaged on 0n30 modules.

So there !! Controversy !! :o

Any comments????????
