 Out & about with WPT
« Thread Started on Apr 4, 2009, 8:42pm »

Just had a great day out at the Norwich Model Railway Club's exhibition with 'Walmington Pier Tramway' (WPT).

It was a very busy day and I enjoyed myself - even to the point where I've decided to withdraw 'Fuel Pad' from exhibiting pending disposal (sale or scrap) as I am more comfortable with exhibiting this pier.

Here's a few pics of WPT in action:

WPT tram No.1 arrives at the pier head.

The entire length of Walmington Pier, behind it are two reference books used at exhibitions.

A fan of this layout very kindly gave me a casting of a leaping dolphin which will be added before the Luton exhibition in two weeks time.

Just got back from another day out with Walmington Pier Tramway - this time at the Luton MRC exhibition - it was another busy day with over 800-900 through the doors!

Had quite a few photo calls today from enthusiasts, local media and the general public.

A couple of photos before opening:

And one of how WPT travels:

Sits on the belt clips on back seat of my car with armrest up and secured by the two outer seat belts.

Simple as that!!!!

When you see WPT in that last pic it really shows how small it is! I really like it, hope to see it sometime!

Thanks Jack,
It is 3 feet long and I can go to 3ft 6in the back seat, but not 4 feet!!!

This is what WPT travels in:
Toyota Avensis 2.0i T-Spirit, 06 reg, 34k miles and like WPT, it is not for sale!!!

If you can get to either the Festival of Model Tramways at Kew Bridge Steam Museum, Green Dragon Lane, Brentford on 18th & 19th July or the CRM exhibition at Crewe in January 10, you'll see it there!

Cheers,

Dave

Another show with WPT today, at the Colne Valley Railway, Castle Hedingham, Essex. Most of the layouts and their owners cooked in a marquee in the stifling heat, 4 of us were lucky to be in preserved Post Office Stowage Van 80429

And WPT fitted perfectly on the clerk's table!

With a very comfortable swivel chair!!!

Coach was very comfortable for we had the loading doors and the end gangway doors open affording us a lovely breeze!!!

Just had a very busy weekend with Walmington Pier Tramway at the Festival of Model Tramways at Kew Bridge Steam Museum:

Looking down onto WPT from the gallery.

We had a great time there and for the 2011 show, its been suggested that WPT and John Prentice's small tramway layout 'Torhampton on Sea' should be joined together at right angles to each other and have two layouts working together.

Sounds interesting?

Cheers,

Dave

P.S. Had front wheel blow-out on way home and the first time I've changed a wheel in years. Car had its 40,000 service and first MoT today and I'm now £1k lighter!!! Needed 4 new tyres, new power steering drive belt, new pollen filter as well as the usual oil and filter changes - OUCH!!!!!

Another day out with Walmington Pier Tramway for Barbara and I - this time a local charity show only 12 miles from me at Botesdale, near Diss in aid of the Suffolk Accident Rescue Service. It was a fairly quiet show with 8 layouts and 3 traders.

Here's WPT all set up and ready for action:

Not counting the ones designated for kiddies to play with Romiley (also yesterday) only had eight "normal" layouts, plus two traders.

I find small shows like this much more friendly and enjoyable than the huge commercially driven events. There is a lot more conversation between the layout operators and the visitors at the smaller shows and I think that this can lead to more people taking up the hobby. The larger shows are so impersonal with much less interaction between the exhibitors and the audience.

Plus the fact that the smaller shows are more likely to be serving a good cause than the big boys who are either struggling to finance the hire of the venue or lining the pockets of certain (to remain un-named on the forum please) publishing enterprises.

I've heard folk say that the January exhibition in Crewe is quite a good one. ;D ;D ;D

Very nice, just wait until Jordan sees it. I'm not sure I'd buy a beer called Fox Bile though!

Neat, the trackplan has plenty of potential. As with any "bitsa" station we can imagine that there's a lot more beyond the bridge so more goods traffic can be handled than would be suggested by the single siding behind the passenger platform....

The trackplan looks familiar... ;D but then I don't suppose there's much room for variation, really... ;)
Out of interest, has Colin seen my O scale Boxfile layout, then, does anyone know?

Bob; I'm not sure what Fox Bile Beer tastes like, but Colin looks like he's tried it .... :o :P ;D ;D

Well this was the last show of 2009 for Walmington Pier Tramway: Norfolk Railway Society at Porlingland Village Hall (converted from a large 'tin tabernacle'), it was a charity show in aid of the local church with 11 layouts and 3 traders, it was very well attended and so busy that even the NRS tombola stand was empty with all prizes won 2 hours before the exhibition closed!!
